conk out (to) [exp]

Meaning:

• to stop functioning correctly.
• to fall sleep because of being worn out.

Examples:

1. When I start the ignition, the engine doesn’t work. My car suddenly has conked out.
2. The children played a lot in the park. When we got home all of them conk out.
3. He conked out during the hike due to heat exhaustion.
4. My car conked out on the highway, and I had to call for a tow.
5. After a long day at work, I conked out as soon as I hit the bed.
6. Don’t worry about me conking out during the movie; I’ve had my coffee!
7. She conked out at the concert due to dehydration.
