Meaning:

  • Said of a feeling is because of being jealous and anger when something good not happened to you and happened to someone else.

Examples:

  1. John is really angry because he won the silver medal of the Olympic and someone else won the gold medal. I think this is sour grapes.
  2. He said she wasn’t that great after she rejected him; sounds like sour grapes.
  3. After losing the game, they said the referee was biased. That’s just sour grapes.
  4. She said the dress wasn’t her style after finding out it was sold out. Total sour grapes!
  5. After not being chosen for the project, he criticized the whole idea as unnecessary. That’s just sour grapes.
  6. She said she didn’t want to attend the party after not being invited; sour grapes for sure!
  7. The losing candidate called the election unfair. It sounds like sour grapes to me.
  8. After losing the competition, he said it wasn’t worth his time anyway, classic sour grapes!
  9. She called the award meaningless after not winning it. Sounds like sour grapes to me.
