Meaning:
- Said of a feeling is because of being jealous and anger when something good not happened to you and happened to someone else.
Examples:
- John is really angry because he won the silver medal of the Olympic and someone else won the gold medal. I think this is sour grapes.
- He said she wasn’t that great after she rejected him; sounds like sour grapes.
- After losing the game, they said the referee was biased. That’s just sour grapes.
- She said the dress wasn’t her style after finding out it was sold out. Total sour grapes!
- After not being chosen for the project, he criticized the whole idea as unnecessary. That’s just sour grapes.
- She said she didn’t want to attend the party after not being invited; sour grapes for sure!
- The losing candidate called the election unfair. It sounds like sour grapes to me.
- After losing the competition, he said it wasn’t worth his time anyway, classic sour grapes!
- She called the award meaningless after not winning it. Sounds like sour grapes to me.
